Group Program Terms and Conditions
If you are in danger or need emergency help, call your local emergency number now. Free crisis lines are here.
These are the terms for the Happy Grieving Group Program. They sit alongside our general Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, which also apply. We have tried to write them in plain language, because you are joining a grief group, not signing a contract you need a lawyer to read first. If anything here is unclear, ask: [email protected].
The Group Program is run by Happy Grieving Limited, in collaboration with The Global Resilience Project, and led by its facilitators.
What it is, what it is not
This is peer support. The Group is people with their own experience of loss supporting each other, not a clinical service: two calls a month, a private group chat, daily check-ins, one-to-one calls with each facilitator, and a grief match, run across six months.
Daily access to the facilitators happens within the group chat. This isn't unlimited or around-the-clock support, it's peer support: you can expect a response within 48 hours, often sooner. One-to-one private support between calls, beyond what's included, is available at additional cost.
The Group is not therapy, counselling, or clinical care, and the facilitators are not therapists or clinicians. It is not a substitute for care from a doctor, a therapist, or another qualified professional. If what you need is clinical care, finding it is your own responsibility, not ours. We're happy to share our own personal experience of going to therapy, if that's useful to you, but this isn't a referral service.
Joining the Group does not create a therapist-client, doctor-patient, or any other clinical relationship with the facilitators, Happy Grieving Limited, or The Global Resilience Project.
The Group offers support and structure, without promising how you'll feel by the end or that your grief will change in a particular way. That reflects what we believe: grief is unique, and there's no right or wrong way, or timeline, to grieve.
Taking part in any discussion, exercise, or workshop is always your choice. You're never required to share, answer, or do anything that doesn't feel right for you, and you set your own pace.
This is not a crisis service. If you are having thoughts of suicide or self-harm, or you are in acute distress right now, we will refer you to crisis hotlines and encourage you to seek psychiatric or emergency care, rather than wait for a call. Free crisis resources are here.
Who it's for
The Group is for adults, 18 and over. We do not accept participants under 18, including with a parent's involvement.
Price and payment
The current price is shown on the Group Program page. You can pay in full or on a monthly plan.
Payments are not refundable. If you choose the monthly plan, you are committing to all six months of payments, not a month-to-month arrangement you can stop partway through.
If cost is the obstacle, tell us before you rule it out. Write and ask; money is never the reason someone can't come.
Bonuses
The $500 off a future Grief Trip applies to a booking made within a year of starting the Group, on a Grief Trip published at that time. Use of the discount on Grief Trips beyond a year, and/or beyond those published at the time you started the Group, is at our discretion. We can't guarantee that Grief Trips will continue to run.
The $500 discount to be featured in The Global Resilience Project book applies to its next edition. Inclusion in any future edition is at our discretion, and depends on whether a future edition is made at all.
How the six months runs
It's a rolling program: a new cohort starts every first Wednesday of the month. Calls happen every second Wednesday, alternating a workshop and an open call, and your own six months carries you through the full set either way.
If your cohort is only you. You choose: we pause the calls until a second person joins, or we run it as a private call just for you.
If facilitator illness or unavailability means a call has to be cancelled. We handle it one of two ways: move it to the following Wednesday, same time, or extend your membership by two weeks to make up for the missed call.
If something beyond our control disrupts the Group for longer than a single call, we'll tell you what's happening and how we're handling it.
We may change the program's format, content, or video platform as needed to keep it running well.
The grief match
We aim to match you with someone close to your experience: loss type, age, gender, and city where we can. An exact match is not always possible, and we cannot guarantee one.
Your match may be a follower of the Happy Grieving, Grief Trips, or The Global Resilience Project community, or a previous Group Program member, rather than only someone in your own cohort, and they may or may not currently be enrolled in the Group Program themselves.
Confidentiality and conduct
What's shared between members, on calls or in the group chat, stays between them. We ask everyone to hold it with care. Members may not record calls, take screenshots of calls or the group chat, or share anything from them outside the group. Doing so can mean removal from the Group.
Happy Grieving Limited, The Global Resilience Project, and their facilitators are not responsible for what another participant says or does, on a call, in the group chat, or in a one-to-one grief match. Interactions between members are between them.
If a participant's presence isn't safe for the group, Happy Grieving Limited and The Global Resilience Project may remove them from the Group at their discretion. We may also end someone's place if we believe they would be better served by a different kind of support, such as clinical care. If that happens, we'll tell you why. The no-refund policy above still applies.
Recording
Calls are recorded, so you can catch one if you miss it. We keep recordings for as long as we need them, and they're only ever available to people in the group.
Your information
What we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do about it is covered in full in our Privacy Policy. In short: we will only use your email and phone for the Group Program and distribution lists for Happy Grieving (including Grief Trips) and The Global Resilience Project, and we will never share your words, or anything that could identify you, without asking you directly first.
Our responsibility to you
You take part in the Group at your own risk. We commit to running it with reasonable care and skill. At the same time, Happy Grieving Limited, The Global Resilience Project and their facilitators are not liable for loss arising from another participant's words or conduct, or from your own choices about what to share or how to use what you learn here. Our total liability to you for the Group is limited to the amount you paid for it.
Changes
We may update these terms at any time. Changes take effect as soon as they are posted here, including for members already in the Group, and the date at the top tells you when we last did. Continuing in the Group after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of Hong Kong, the same as our general Terms of Use. Any dispute will be dealt with by the courts of Hong Kong. This doesn't take away any right you have under the law where you live to bring a claim there.
If a court decides any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
